LION patients come from all over the world to access the expertise of our Consultants and the latest in Interventional Oncology treatments.
Often these treatments are not available in our patient’s home countries, which is why many embassies and governments sponsor their citizens to have treatment with LION Consultants.
Medical Information
International patients do not require a referral letter in order to make an appointment with our LION consultants. However as interventional oncology treatment is highly specialised the LION Consultants need to have all your medical information in order to evaluate your condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment, so it’s important to send all your recent scans and medical reports to LION in advance of your first appointment.
In most cases your treating Specialist in your country of origin will be able to send us a medical report detailing your condition and treatment history. This needs to include any scans and test results you have had recently. Assessing your suitability for treatment in advance of making your travel plans is important, so you do not incur any travel costs unnecessarily.
Billing and Payment
If you have a local national insurance policy or if you are sponsored by your government, we will request a letter of guarantee from them or of payment for your treatment in advance of your appointment or surgery with a LION Consultant. You will have to pay LION directly for any costs relating to your treatment that is not covered by your insurer guarantee.
Please provide us with the full details of your medical insurer when making your appointment so we can check well in advance for the level of payment they will guarantee.
Professional fees vary according to the type of procedure and take into account the complexity, time and the consultant skill involved in your treatment. The LION secretary will always confirm to you before each treatment or appointment what the fees are, however it is important to remember that these may change on the day of treatment if your procedure turns out to be different from what was planned.
Travelling and Visas
LION is not able to make any travel or visa arrangements for international patients. However the private hospitals we work from have dedicated International Patient Teams that assist overseas patients in making all the necessary arrangements. We will gladly put you in touch with them should you require any assistance.
A typical Hospital International Patient Teams can assist you with such matters as:
- Accommodation
- Interpreters
- Transport Assistance
- Advise on accommodation for visitors and relatives
